As the Israeli invasion Gaza steps up, international revulsion against the dire human crimes being committed against Palestinian civilians is growing rapidly. Global public opinion is on the side of the Palestinians and calling for peace and demanding an end to the butchery that has murdered more than 10,000 so far.
As the troops ready to follow the tanks and bombers from the skies, the carnage is set to get even worse. The world knows this and is reacting. This is giving rise to a growing gulf to the coalition between government and big media and public opinion, particularly in the formally colonial nations. This has extended to their hangers on like Australia. It has been a long time since millions have marched in the streets over such an issue.
We could be forgiven for not noticing. Much of the news has been blocked. This extends to the degree that Jewish people are reacting against what the Israeli government is doing in their name.
Australia has experienced marches, estimated of up to 40,000 in Sydney and Melbourne, and a similar response in terms of population size, in other cities.

This hasn’t only happened in Australia. millions took part in cities across the Middle East and Indonesia. It happened in, India, Japan, and South Africa. Across Europe, the United States, and Canada it was the same. Half a million marched in London last weekend. Washington saw 300,000, and huge crowds were seen in New Yor, Chicago, It was the same story in cities across Europe, including, including Berlin, Paris, Rome, Madrid, and Paris, where the police used teargas to disperse the march.

Never before has an anti-war movement grown so fast and so big, and it is still growing. It will have a major impact. The United Sates can’t continue to enable the massacre of a people and retain credibility in the eyes of the world. Israe will reap the consequences.
One of the most important lessons of history is that repression breeds resistance, and the people of Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian diaspora will continue to fight for justice, and they will have the world on their side. Israel will find itself in a quagmire it can’t win.
