The latest Essential Poll reveals that the majority of Australians, that is 53 percent, are struggling financially. Many of the respondents said that rising interest rates are the biggest burden. David McBride, the whistleblower on war crimes in Afghanistan perpetrated by Australian military personnel faces court on 13 November. He was charged over disclosures that revealed the murder of non-combatant civilians. He faces up to 50 years in prison. None of those who committed the killings have been charged.
This double standard has not gone unnoticed. Public opinion is on McBride’s side. This has resulted in the backdown from holding a secret trial in a closed-door tribunal. There will now be a trial by jury – except that anything deemed to be of national security will still be heard behind closed doors. A fair trial is by no means guaranteed.
McBride deserves the support of everyone.

The reason they give is that Australians are earning too much money, because unemployment is so low. This means that too much money is chasing too few goods and services and causing inflation. Their solution is a few more unemployed and keeping wages down, ad tools to dampen excessive their clam that there is excessive demand for goods and services. Such killings of union and other leaders are routinely practiced in the Philippines and are becoming more frequent udert the new Marcos regime.
Acclaimed investigative journalist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Seymour Hersh, wrote the following article (published in Subtack 26 September 20203). It is about who blew up the Baltic Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines from Russia to Germany. In February, his published investigation that pointed the finger at the Biden Administration earned him personal rebuke and led to unsubstantiated alternative explanations.
