The UN is moving to list the Great Barrier Reef as threatened by global warming

United Nations officials have begun moves to put Australia’s Great Barrier Reef on the UNSCO list of “in danger” world heritage sites. Being on the list would pressure the Australian government to do much more to protect it. If this goes through, it will be the first time a world heritage site has been on the list because of the threat of global warming. Doctors reveal crisis in Australian emergency departments

Melissa Davey’s account of the state of emergency departments in Australia  hospitals (The Guardian 15 June 2021) should be of great concern to all Australia. How is it that this could be happening in such a rich country? Patients have a right to  proper treatment and so do health workers. The abuse from under resourcing has gone on for a long time. It has got to stop.

500 American journalists call for revealing facts of Israel’s oppression of Palestinians

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been toppled by a coalition of opponents. Most of the world has welcomed the change. Netanyahu presided over a long list of human rights violations against Palestinians. The new government may not change this. The following (Days of Palestine 12 June 2021) is about 500 journalists in the United States, who have signed an open letter demanding American media  reports on the realities of the Israeli occupation and its policies in Palestine.

The G7 gathering re-affirms business as usual produces nothing of substance

Scott Morrison goes to London and the G7 summit in Cornwall. Australia is not a member of the group and there because of an invitation from the United Sates to be an observer. The Australian Prime Minister was going to shine at a private meeting with United States President Joe Biden. But the presence of British Prime Minister put an end to this. Morrison government turning Australia into a U.S. military base and allowing more Marines into Darwin

The message coming out from early G7 connected talks between Australia and the United States, is that there will be an expansion of joint military activity. A new joint brigade made up of U.S. Marines and Australian Defence Forces (ADF) is to be based in Darwin. Although there is talk of rotating the command on the ground between the two nations, real control will remain in the hands of the United States. New Medicare cut is part of ambition to destroy Australia’s affordable public health system

Scott Morrison and his government are carrying out another major attack on Medicare. This time via an overhaul to raise health costs and downgrade the quality of access to care at the same time.
