This is big news. The United Nations has once again tried to vote for a ceasefire. Every permanent and non-permanent member, voted for it except for the United States, which used its veto power to stop it. At almost at the same time, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the former defence minister Yoav Gallant. A warrant was also issued for senior Hamas official Mohammed Deif. But the most important were Netanyahu and Gallant for far more serious crimes against humanity, as well as war crimes. The White house has rejected the warrants against the two.
The Trifecta is completed by the permission given to Ukraine’s proxy regime to use long range ballistic missiles against Russia. They have been used, and the latest news is that Russia has sent its own ballistic missile into Ukraine. Embattled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy might yet realise his wish to escalate war and draw in American forces on a larger scale.
Both the Israel and Ukraine conflicts are being used by Washington as vehicles to increase its presence and power in these regions. The first is Using NATO to encircle Russia, damage its economy, and undermine it politically. The expansion of NATO is also aimed at doing the dame to China via its northern and western borders.
It’s no surprise that this has heightened geopolitical tensions. Russia and China don’t want to put under threat. They know that this undermines their national sovereignty, and this commonality has drawn them progressively closer together. China is not a participant in the Ukraine war and isn’t about to be. The advantage of this is that China is well placed to do a lot behind the scenes to broker peace.
By contrast the United States under the Biden presidency, has done everything to prevent the peace. Despite losing on the battlefield, ongoing war is the preferred option. Rather than reconcile with this reality, everything is being done to escalate and provoke the possibility of a nuclear conflict. The supply of ballistic missiles and their use is another significant step in this direction.
This poses a grave danger to the whole world. Everything must be done to put a stop to it. This means the world confronting Washington.
Isreal’s attack on the Palestinians and its expansion into Lebanon, Iran and other surrounding countries, are linked its territorial expansion ambitions, which also serves United States geopolitical ambitions, in a similar way to war in Ukraine. This rime it’s to assume control over West Asia, progress through to China’s border on the westside. This would presumably join up with NATO’s expansion to the east.
This is about maintaining and strengthening single dominance across the world. It happens that the world doesn’t want to succumb to this. Russia and China don’t want to be targeted. This contradiction between the United States and the world is the main reason for heightening world tension and conflict.
What we have is the product of a power in slow decline and is doing everything it can to arrest this. The world would be a much better place without big power domination. Achieving this goal would be a major step forward for humanity. Domination by a big power is no-one’s interests except those who control this power.
In the meantime, the need is for the world to put pressure on Washington to step back from its aggression and the use of proxies like the Regimes in Kiev and Tel Aviv. Pressure must be put to stop arming them. Pressure should be to support the bulk of national at the United Nations and the ICC. Acceptance of Palestinian rights and Russia’s legitimate concerns over its sovereignty must be accepted.
For the next two months the focus is on the Biden administration. This will shift to the Trump administration when it takes office on 20 January.
Everything depends on the ongoing rise of a global peace movement encompassing the unity of most nations and peoples against the shared threat.
