The Herald Sun is the Victorian flagship of the Murdoch media empire. its bias is as blatant as the Collingwood cheer squad. There is a great deal of hypocrisy when the Morrison government and big media led by Rupert Murdoch’s empire make a stand for who they call fighters for democracy and turn a blind eye to others. Their choice is very selective. It all depends on whether the person concerned lines up with their political interests. Jessica Corbett covers the coming U.S. tour by Julian Assange’s father John Shipton and brother Gabriel Shipton (Common Dreams28 May 2021). Starting on 6 June, the tour plans to meet up with activists, journalists and policy makers, to lift support o the call for Julian’s freedom and against attacks on a free press. Julian Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks and hunted by Washington for revealing inconvenient truths.
Julian Assange’s extradition hearing continued last week, and a lot of time was devoted to argument over his mental health. The judge made clear, a decision is not going to be made before the United States Presidential election in November. Big media, press freedom groups, and some prominent ‘human rights’ organisations continue to fall in line with Donald Trump, and have mostlygone silent on the case. From the United States to Australia, Rupert Murdoch’s media empire regularly courts controversy. Its coverage of COVID-19, however, is on another level.

The article is noteworthy, as it providesdetails of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News knowingly publishing fake photographs to back its portrayal of protests against the killing of George Floyd by police officers in Seatle, as violent and needing to be suppressed. Fox is the source of the fiction that armed gangs hare holding areas in American cities hostage terrorising inhabitants and demanding protection money, now making the rounds of social media. Bringing the truth to light is important.
